The painter of little things
In the objects we use every day, there is much more value than in merely being able to use them. When we hold them, handle them, use them to carry out even the most trivial of daily activities, we impress a thin layer of our own existence onto their surfaces.
And it is these traces that Paolo Quaresima hunts for in his creations. Pictorial compositions of everyday objects that bear traces of our lives, of our existences, imprinted in the signs they’ve been used.
No longer just ‘still lifes’, but portraits in absence.
Biography
Paolo Quaresima lives and works in Merano, the town where he was born in 1962. He chose – and it was a “less mature and balanced” choice – to paint after he left high school.
